Emily Sheppard

Emily Sheppard is a dedicated advocate who provides strategic advice on workplace law to both employers and employees. With a combined Juris Doctor and Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto, she brings a client-centred and trauma-informed perspective to her investigations and advocacy work.

In her practice, Emily maintains a particular focus on human rights law and advocacy. She regularly represents clients in wrongful dismissal and human rights disputes before courts, tribunals, and administrative boards.

On the advisory side, Emily works with employers to take a proactive approach to workplace matters – developing contracts, policies, and day-to-day practices that help prevent disputes before they arise. She also counsels both employers and employees on navigating terminations, restructurings, and other workplace transitions.

As a trauma-informed neutral investigator, Emily regularly conducts and supports on complex, sensitive workplace investigations across a range of sectors.

Emily was called to the Bar in 2023, and is a member of the Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association. Before joining Turnpenney Milne LLP, Emily articled at a leading management-side labour and employment boutique, and worked with employees as a caseworker at Downtown Legal Services and Advocates for Injured Workers.

Outside of her practice, Emily enjoys creative pursuits as a painter and fibre artist.
