Turnpenney Milne LLP is regularly retained to conduct external and independent workplace investigations in both public and private sector organizations of all sizes. In these investigations, depending on the terms of our mandate, we are retained to make findings of fact, engage in an application of an organization’s applicable policies and/or the legal framework, and make recommendations arising from those findings.
The subject matter of the investigations we conduct is varied and includes allegations of harassment, including sexual harassment, human rights related and personal harassment as well as discrimination. We are also regularly retained to investigate general allegations of misconduct including conflicts of interest, fraudulent behavior, Code of Conduct violations and the like.
At Turnpenney Milne LLP, our investigation philosophy is that while we are a neutral third party, we remain mindful of the overall impact an investigation has on a workplace. We recognize that investigations are, by nature, difficult for employees to experience. We operate with an eye to minimizing further detrimental impact on the workplace that can come as a result of the allegations that led to our retainer and/or our findings.
Our presence insulates Human Resources from having to wear what can be perceived by employees as dual hats – employee advisor and investigator – and reinforces for employees, management’s commitment to a individual’s legal rights in the workplace and adherence to best practices and statutory requirements.
We would be pleased to provide you with more information on our workplace investigation practice.
