Asha is an experienced employment lawyer with a focus on human rights litigation, disability management, conducting complex workplace investigations and culture assessments, training and providing employment advice to a wide variety of employers.
She has also represented major crown corporations, municipalities and large private sector clients in grievance arbitration proceedings and worked in collaboration with their human resources teams to roll out strategic equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and corporate communication plans.
Asha has conducted many complex and sensitive investigations for provincially and federally regulated employers, universities, colleges, school boards, police services, municipalities, First Nations, private sector and not-for-profit organizations. Where appropriate, Asha conducts her investigations using a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens, particularly when investigating sexual harassment and assault cases, and investigations involving systemic and institutional racism.
Asha is also a highly sought after speaker and trainer who has been selected to speak at a number of employment and labour conferences across Canada and has significant expertise in the areas of diversity and inclusion. For 14 years she taught a Constitutional Law course at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Asha was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008. She obtained her law degree from the University of Windsor, graduating in the top 15% of her law class and received an award of excellence in Labour, Employment and Administrative Law. Prior to this, she completed her M.A. at the University of Western Ontario in 2004, and her Honours Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science and Law and Society in 2002 from York University.
Asha has also been quoted in the Law Times regarding an employer’s Duty to Investigate and has been published extensively in various newsletters and magazines. She has also appeared as a guest expert on two occasions on CBC radio where she was interviewed by Matt Galloway.
Asha was previously a board member for the Mississauga Food Bank and Northwood Neighbourhood Services, a member agency of the United Way. In her spare time, Asha provides important advocacy and training for various autism organizations.
Having a family hailing from Trinidad, it’s no surprise that Asha loves to dance, is down-to-earth, and enjoys travelling with her family and son who keeps her on her toes!
